Hei Hanna! Once again I encountered in a book something that baffled me: "...sitä tehtävää, jonka annoit minulle lähettäissäsi minut tänne...". I get the meaning, but I have no clue as to what this grammatical form "lähettäissäsi" is. It looks like "lähettää" + "-i" + "-ssä" + "-si". But is this really some form of "lähettää"? If so, what is this? Looks like plural inessive of the A-inifinitive, but I though this infinitive can only take the nominative and translative cases.
Hmm.. I'm guessing that it should be "lähettäessäsi", and in that case, it would be the inessive form of E-infinitive. The meaning is the same, but the other form sounds very old.
I actually found this page when trying to find an answer: http://www.helsinki.fi/vvks/index.html I'd say "lähettäissäsi" is just an old form of "lähettäessäsi".
Ha, "lähettäessäsi" is excatly what I thought of, right after I posted the question :). I wonder if there's a grammar book of old Finnish (preferably in English...).
