How to use the Finnish word 'perillä'

Perillä is one of those place adverbs that has only three forms. Very likely the expression has something to do with perä, which is back as in peräsuoli (rectum), avaimenperä (keychain) and alkuperäinen (original).

  • perillä = at the destination
  • periltä = from the destination
  • perille = to the destination

Useful sentences:

  • Ollaanko me jo perillä? - Are we there yet?
  • Milloin me ollaan perillä? - When are we at the destination?
  • Minä soitan sinulle periltä. - I'll call you when I'm there / from the destination.
  • Minä voin viedä sinut perille asti. - I can take you all the way there / to the destination.
  • Oletko perillä näistä säännöistä? - Do you understand these rules? (Yes, olla perillä can also mean to understand something.)
