Finnish words with 'ammatti'

Ammatti is usually easy to learn, but ammattilainen and ammattimainen are confusingly close to each other. I hope that this post is helpful to you.

Ammatti is a profession. 


  • Mikä sun ammatti on? - What's your profession?
  • Hän on ammatiltaan toimittaja. - He is a journalist by his profession.

Ammattilainen is a professional.


  • Hän on todellinen ammattilainen! - She's a real professional!
  • Tämä veitsi on vain ammattilaisille. - This knife is only for the professionals. 

Ammattimainen is professional. Ammattimaisesti is professionally.


  • Onko Suomessa ammattimasta rikollisuutta? - Is there professional crime in Finland?
  • Yritä käyttäytyä ammattimaisesti. - Try to behave in a professional manner. 

Ammatillinen is vocational.
