Free activities:
- Mäki-Matin perhepuisto and Vanha kunnon kahvila, a playground and a café in the city centre. While you're here, you can also visit the Harju view tower and The Natural History Museum of Central Finland.
- Luontopolut - Nature trails. My favourites are Sippulanniemen luontopolku (closest to my home) and Kolmissoppisen metsäpolku, which is also next to a small beach. Tourulan luontopolku is easy to access from the city centre, and it's only 700 meters long. Mäyrävuori has definitely the best view.
- Liikennepuisto Viitaniemessä - A traffic park in Viitaniemi
Other activities:
- Laajavuoren seikkailupuisto - An adventure park in Laajavuori (Instagram video clips here and here.) Also great fun for adults who are not afraid of heights!
- HopLop, an indoor adventure park if it rains and you just want to read a book while your children run around.
- Leo's Leikkimaa is a similar indoor park with super nice sofas for reading parents.
- Laivaristeily Päijänteellä - A boat cruise on the Lake Päijänne
- Minigolf Jyväskylän Satamassa - Playing mini golf in the Jyväskylä harbour
- Pandan tehtaanmyymälä Vaajakoskella - Panda chocolate factory's outlet store in Vaajakoski
Who doesn't want to buy a suitcase full of chocolate and licorice from this cute creature? |
The best (and the cheapest, as the kids pay only 2,80 €) place to eat with kids is definitely the university cafeteria Ilokivi:
If you like tea, you can leave the children with someone else in your company and enjoy a relaxing cup of tea in Teeleidi on the other side of the road.
If you have more time and a car, these places make a nice day trip from Jyväskylä:
- Nokkakiven huvipuisto Lievestuoreella - Nokkakivi Amusement Park in Lievestuore (30 km from Jyväskylä) Here's a view from the ferris wheel!
- Leivonmäen kansallispuisto - Leivonmäki National Park (50 km from Jyväskylä)
- Peurungan kylpylä Laukaassa - Peurunka Spa in Laukaa (30 km from Jyväskylä)
- Puuhapuisto Veijari Saarijärvellä - An Activity Park Veijari in Saarijärvi (80 km from Jyväskylä)
- Ähtärin eläinpuisto - Ähtäri Zoo (110 km from Jyväskylä)
Missä sinä asut? Mitä kivaa sinun kaupungissasi voi tehdä?
Where do you live? What are the fun things to do in your town?
