When to use the genitive in Finnish

Here's a post about the singular genitive.
I'm sure that you've noticed that you need it a lot.

1. Ownership

• Onko tämä sinun? - Is this yours?
• Mikä on Suomen pisin silta? - What is Finland's longest bridge?

2. With postpositions

• Kenen kanssa sinä olit? - With whom were you?
• Miksi tämä oli sängyn alla?  - Why was this under the bed?

3. A total object ending

• Luin eilen hyvän kirjan. - I read a good book yesterday.
• Syötkö tämän omenan? - Will you eat this apple?
• Very common object sentences

4. When something lasts for just one time unit

• Asuin Ruotsissa vuoden. - I lived in Sweden for a year.
• Olin metsässä koko päivän.  - I was in the forest for a whole day. 
• Elokuva kestää tunnin. - The movie lasts for one hour. 

5. Necessive structure

• Minun täytyy lähteä. - I have to leave. 
• Sinun kannattaa lukea tämä kirja. - You should read this book. 

6. Strenghtening adjective

• Tämä on ihanan tulista! - This is wonderfully spicy!
• Se on kauhean kallis. - It is horribly expensive.
