How to be clogged, blocked, stuck and jammed in Finnish

Sometimes we all have a bad day. Olla tukossa and Olla jumissa might be then useful expressions to know. 

Tukossa = Niin, että jokin ei mene läpi jostain 


  • Mun nenä on tukossa. = I have a stuffy nose. 
  • Vessanpönttö on taas tukossa! - The toilet is clogged again!
  • Tie oli tukossa, koska joku oli ajanut ojaan.  - The road was blocked, because somebody had driven into the ditch.
  • Miten tämä meni tukkoon? - How did this get clogged? 


Jumissa = Niin, että ei liiku 


  • Mä olen jumissa lumihangessa. = I'm stuck in a snow bank.
  • Olin Suomessa jumissa puoli vuotta koronan takia. = I was stuck in Finland for 6 months because of Covid-19.
  • Mulla on selkä jumissa. = I can't move my back. (If I move my back, it hurts.)
  • Minä jäin jumiin! - I got stuck!
