Finnish word pairs that still make sense after you switch two letters

This is a fun game: Try to come up with word pairs that still make sense after you switch two vowels or consonants! 

Here's what I could think of: 

Two vowels switch places: 

  1. hourailla - huorailla
  2. Kairo - koira
  3. kakku - kukka
  4. kassi - kissa 
  5. keikka - kiekka 
  6. kirkko - korkki
  7. laki - lika
  8. leikki - liekki
  9. limu - lumi
  10. liuska - luiska
  11. paino - piano
  12. pakastin - Pakistan
  13. passi - pissa
  14. pelto - polte
  15. pöyristyä - pyöristyä
  16. sakko - sokka
  17. sato - sota
  18. syvä - sävy
  19. takki - tikka
  20. takku - tukka
  21. tarve - terva
  22. vaimo - voima
  23. veri - vire


Two consonants switch places: 

  1. entinen - etninen
  2. etsin - estin
  3. lammas - sammal
  4. lasi - sali
  5. lato - talo
  6. kaste - katse
  7. kastella - katsella
  8. paisti - paitsi

Here are the translations:

Two vowels switch places: 

  1. hourailla - huorailla - to fantasize, to hallucinate - to behave like a whore
  2. Kairo - koira = Cairo - a dog
  3. kakku - kukka = a cake - a flower
  4. kassi - kissa = a bag - a cat 
  5. keikka - kiekka = a gig, a round (spoken Finnish form of kierros.)
  6. kirkko - korkki = a church - a (bottle) cap, a cork
  7. laki - lika = a law - dirt
  8. leikki - liekki = a children's free play, a flame
  9. limu - lumi = a soft drink - snow
  10. liuska - luiska =  a sheet of paper, a ramp
  11. paino - piano = weight - a piano
  12. pakastin - Pakistan = a freezer - Pakistan
  13. passi - pissa = a passport - pee
  14. pelto - polte = a field - a burn
  15. pöyristyä - pyöristyä = to be shocked - to become round
  16. sakko - sokka = a fine, a ticket - a hand grenade pin
  17. sato - sota = a crop, a harvest - a war
  18. syvä - sävy - = deep - a nuance, a hue
  19. takki - tikka = a jacket - a woodpecker, a dart
  20. takku - tukka = a tangle - hair
  21. tarve - terva = a need, tar
  22. vaimo - voima = a wife - power
  23. veri - vire = blood - a tone, tune


Two consonants switch places:

  2. etsin - estin - I searched/looked for - I prevented
  3. lammas - sammal = a lamb, moss
  4. lasi - sali = a glas, a hall
  5. lato - talo = a barn - a house
  6. kaste - katse = dew, a baptism / a dip, a look
  7. kastella - katsella =  to wet, to watch
  8. paisti - paitsi =  a roast - except
