Finnish feelings in a nutshell

One of my students once said that Now I know why Finns don't talk about their feelings very much. The grammar is so complicated! Obviously, the grammar comes very naturally to us, but I admit that one can have surprisingly many options to say almost the same thing.

  • Minä olen sairas. - I am ill.
  • Minulla on sairas olo. - I have an ill feeling. 
  • Minusta tuntuu sairaalta. - I feel ill. 
  • Tunnen itseni sairaaksi. - I feel myself ill.
