Talking about temperatures in Finnish

Kylmä is cold, viileä is cool, haalea is lukewarm, lämmin is warm, and kuuma is hot. How about these?


  1. jääkylmä
  2. jääkaappikylmä
  3. huoneenlämpöinen
  4. ruumiinlämpöinen
  5. kädenlämpöinen
  6. taskulämmin
  7. tulikuuma
  8. Helvetin kuuma

  1. jääkylmä = ice cold
  2. jääkaappikylmä = refridgerator cold
  3. huoneenlämpöinen = room temperature warm
  4. ruumiinlämpöinen = body temperature warm
  5. kädenlämpöinen =  hand temperature warm, basically the same as ruumiinlämpöinen
  6. taskulämmin = warm as if you have been holding it in your pocket
  7. tulikuuma = hot as fire
  8. Helvetin kuuma = hot as hell

Huh. I always thought of kädenlämpöinen as lukewarm, but it seems the word "haalea" exists, even though I have never seen that used (though maybe because I wasn't looking for it).
