How to use the Finnish verbs 'kysyä' and 'pyytää'

Sometimes I check the search keywords in order to find out how people have ended up reading my blog. Here's a post for the person who searched for pyytää. In short, kysyä is to ask a question and pyytää is to ask for something, to request.

kysyä, kysyn, kysyin, kysynyt

• Kysyitkö jotain? - Did you ask something?
• En kehtaa kysyä. - I don't dare to ask, it's too embarrassing.
• Minä kysyn Annalta, voiko hän auttaa. - I'll ask Anna if she can help. 

pyytää, pyydän, pyysin, pyytänyt

• Voinko pyytää sinulta palvelusta? - Can I ask you a favour?
• En pyydä sinulta mitään. - I'm not asking anything from you.
• Miksi sinä et pyytänyt apua? - Why didn't you ask for help?
• Pyysitkö häntä tulemaan mukaan? - Did you ask him/her to come along?
• Pyydä heti anteeksi! - Apologise immediately!
